The Hanseatic City of Rostock - A Passion for More?

„Söben Toern to Sint Marien Kark,
söben Straten bi den groten Mark,
söben Doren, so dar gaen to Lande,
söben Kopmannsbrüggen bi dem Strande,
söben Toern, so up dat Rathus stan,
söben Klocken, so dakliken slan,
söben Linnenböm up den Rosengoern:
Dat syn de Rostocker Kennewohrn.“

This poem of Peter Lindenberg of the year 1596 tells mysteriously of times passed. They are even omnipresent today in many places by carefully combining traditional and contemporary architecture in the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

The city always remained a young city - and this is not least due to about 12,500 students at the city's colleges and university. Founded in 1419, the university is the oldest in the whole area of the Baltic Sea.

Even nowadays science and technology, shipping and shipbuilding, commercial and social life shape the character of the nearly 800 year old Hanseatic city at the sea and her seaside resort Warnemünde.

As a venue for meetings and culture, Rostock is also today a popular destination or base to explore the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: A get together in the sunset on the beaches of the Baltic Sea, to dream into the far distance from the lighthouse of Warnemünde, to taste freshly smoked fish with a Rostock beer on a fishing cutter, to learn during a stroll through the town about Rostock's literary figures, about craftsmanship in old alleyways or at the Hanse, to see harbours and taste snacks of herring - to visit the chain of peninsulas Fischland-Darss-Zingst with their typical thatched fishing cottages or to go on a voyage of discovery with the narrow-gauge railway "Molli“ from Doberan to Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn.

Conferences where others enjoy holidays - doing exciting business in a relaxing atmosphere - will give you a passion for Rostock and the sea
